Family legend has it that Jack Andrea's first "store" was actually a piano crate from which he sold tobacco, candies, and newspapers to the factory workers that streamed past at the start of their shifts. It was successful enough to enable Jack and his brothers to have a real storefront by 1912.

For three generations Andrea's has excelled in the premium cigar and tobacco industry. Second-generation Al Andrea (Jack's son) was a proponant of "all things in moderation." He worked tirelessly in the industry to emphasize quality over quantity in the enjoyment of fine tobaccos. In the 1960's, Al introduced his own custom blends of pipe tobacco, among them Andrea's Prime Time and Hunter's Moon. He also travelled throughout Europe, building relationships with the premier makers of handcrafted smoking pipes in Dublin, London, and Milan.
